Insecure writer's fear:
One of my fears as a writer is finding a niche that fits me. Often, when I go to a book signing with multiple authors, I am usually the only non-fiction author and readers seem to be drawn to the excitement of a plot. I know that non-fiction is said to do well but I guess that will come in due time. The thing with non-fiction books is that there are so many out, you usually have to be well known to sell a large number. One of the things that I do have going for me is creativity and I see some will be needed for my last two projects. Wish me the best! Another fear that I have is that the time needed to promote will take me away from my first love of writing if I am not careful.  HOWEVER, I am challenged to let the words I write motivate me and thus I am in it to win and will take advantage of every possible opportunity, whether large or small, that comes my way.

  1. Or have a really killer title that people cannot resist. Write about something different, something that stands out, yet something that you love to do or feel passionate about. I do wish you luck. Non-fiction is a different animal from what I'm used to being around.

  5. That's why the speaking engagements are so important - that's where I sell the bulk of my non-fiction title.

  10. I have one area of non-fiction I write. Roses, well, rose rustling to be exact. It's a hobby of mine. I've done a few articles in magazines and have a short non-fiction book nearly finished. I have to say, my speaking engagements already taking place on the subject will be my best place to market my work. Every time I speak, I mention I'm working on the book, the audience is captivated and wants to know more about it and when it will come out.

Believe in what you write, love what you write. You'll find your niche, and I do wish you the best. :))
